Very glad to have read it! Full of information and insights. What does the acronym TPTB stand for?

The Powers That Be. :) Old-school acronym.

Nicely done! Great explanation. Well, here we are in the 8th month of Israeli genocide in Gaza. There’s no “course correction” Mr. Biden can do now that will ever win my vote - not that it matters. He’s a monster, and I can’t vote for him.

That's understandable. I wrote this in early February, speaking into the void at that point but still wanting to express the particular viewpoint I had as a lifelong Democratic voter who was at the time (and still is) frustrated to the point of constriction over what is going on with this administration and the choices given to voters come November. At that point, the Uncommitted vote in Michigan had yet to occur, so all these points of order were seen as rather speculative by TPTB at the time, folks who were really trying to put the kibosh on anyone taking these dissident sentiments seriously, especially in the press. That's why the Michigan primary results were such a watershed, in terms of reorienting the broader conversation. Of course, Biden still snubbed his own base that very night and extended a hand toward Nikki Haley voters. _That very night_. Such a slap in the face.

Last month, the continuation of this this impulse to suppress this sentiment and deny reality manifest in the clubbing of college students who were displaying peace tactics. It's the same kneejerk reaction to hide this rift in the Democratic party from the sight of onlookers and bystanders, because TPTB don't see the root cause of what's bringing these protests about but instead are worried about their impact on Biden's image.

Again, I think in February, there was time for Biden to recapture some of his erstwhile voting base that he had alienated with this unqualified support of Israel's genocidal pursuit of desolation and destruction. I think he had time, but he needed to create the space to maneuver. He's trying to do that now, in tiny baby steps, but it's rather late for such things. He's going to _completely_ come off as opportunistic. It's a bad look and a tight squeeze.

Thanks for reading this essay at such a late date!
